Waterproof Rating
H2No® Performance Standard
H₂No® Performance Standard is Patagonia’s benchmark for waterproof, breathable, and durable gear—built to perform in extreme conditions and last for years. It’s not a fabric, but a demanding multi-phase testing process that every waterproof product must pass in both lab and real-world field conditions.
Materials are subjected to the “Killer Wash,” a brutal wet flex and abrasion test that simulates 30 years of wear. To pass, fabrics must start with a waterproof rating of 20,000mm and maintain at least 10,000mm after testing. Breathability, surface repellency, and overall durability are also rigorously evaluated.
Final products are then tested in the field by Patagonia’s global ambassadors and athletes.
1% for the Planet
Since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. They've awarded over $140 million in cash and in-kind donations to domestic and international grassroots environmental groups making a difference in their local communities. 1% for the Planet is an alliance of businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the natural environment. They understand that profit and loss are directly linked to its health, and are concerned with the social and environmental impacts of industry.
RECCO®
RECCO® is a passive reflector technology that helps professional rescuers locate you in case of an avalanche or lost-person search. Built into gear like jackets and pants, RECCO® reflectors require no batteries or activation—they reflect signals from RECCO® detectors used by trained rescue teams.
RECCO® reflectors only work where rescue teams are equipped with RECCO® detectors and are not a substitute for an avalanche transceiver, proper training, or backcountry safety gear.
Fair Trade Certified™
Fair Trade Certified™ is a certification that ensures products are made according to rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards. For apparel, this means the factory workers who made the product receive additional wages through a community development fund, work in safer conditions, and are supported by policies that promote empowerment and sustainability. Through their partnership with Fair Trade USA™, Patagonia has been making Fair Trade clothing since 2014. Today, they are proud to offer more styles made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory than any other apparel brand—over 90% of their line. To date, Patagonia’s Fair Trade program has impacted more than 85,000 workers around the globe.
