650-Fill Down Insulation
Down refers to a mix of waterfowl feathers (usually goose) that has a minimum of 70% down clusters and plumules (the soft, springy tufts that provide loft), 10% down fibers, and a 20% combination of feathers, feather fiber, and residue. All Mountain Hardwear down is 100% goose down and surpasses this minimum standard. The two major sources of down are China and Europe. Chinese geese are harvested at about seven weeks old and yield smaller down clusters. European geese are harvested at about twenty weeks old and yield larger clusters. Our 600- and 650-fill power downs are mixtures of Chinese and European down, while our 775-fill is entirely European down.
