H No® Barrier Membrane Technology:

Patagonia's waterproof/breathable H2No® barrier provides the maximum available protection in extended wet conditions. H2No® is a laminate or coating applied to high-performance shell fabrics. The resulting fabric blocks wind and water on the outside, yet allows perspiration to escape - keeping the wearer dry, warm and comfortable.

Prospective H2No® fabrics are tested extensively before they're approved for production. To test for durability, Patagonia uses Killer Wash, a 24-hour rigorous washing that simulates years of use in wet conditions. To ensure complete waterproof performance, Patagonia forces water through the fabric and record how much pressure the fabric will hold before water passes through it. To test breathability, Patagonia assess the Moisture Vapor Transport Rate - measuring how much water vapor is moved from inside the garment through the fabric during use. Fabrics must earn the right to bear the H2No® logo.
